16 Nov: The results are in! See below for details.
15 Oct: Shay Caron, author of Chaos has made two announcements regarding a bug which can render the game unwinnable and a missing copyright notice.
5 Oct: The games The Water Bird and Guard Duty cannot be solved due to bugs. If you want to play Remembrance off-line, the source code is available. Due to a few typos in Comp99.z5, an updated version is available. The readme.txt file for the MSDOS game SNOSAE contains outdated license information. The game was never released, and the license should have been removed from that file.
1 Oct: The games are now available for downloading. See below for the packages. When you're ready to record your votes, you may do so on the new voting page.
12 Sept: Everyone's intents are in, and we're getting closer to a final list of entrants. The list will be published at the end of September, just before the games are released.
18 May: Announcements have been posted to Usenet, and the prize list is beginning to grow.
1 April: The web site has opened. You have six months left before all entries must be in and judging begins.
For five years, the readers of the Usenet newsgroup rec.arts.int-fiction have held a yearly interactive fiction competition. For fans of the old Infocom games as well as for newcomers to the genre, the competition is a chance to enjoy some of the best short adventure games available anywhere.
The competition is over, and votes have been counted. Congratulations to the top three games:
1. Winter Wonderland
2. For A Change
3. Six Stories
And congratulations to our Miss Congeniality winners, which were decided by the authors. For A Change was first, followed by Hunter, In Darkness and Winter Wonderland in a tie for second.

What is this interactive

What is the history of the competition?
What was the full competition schedule?
What prizes were given in the
competition?
What were the rules of the

(At this point it is too late to enter a game, volunteer, or judge the games.)
(Also, be sure to visit Stephen's IF site at

The organizer for this year's competition is Stephen Granade. Thanks go to all who have volunteered their time and energy to make this competition happen over the last five years. Special thanks go to Ivan Cockrum, Mark Musante, Lucian Smith, Liza Daly, Ryan Freebern, and Misty Granade.
