Welcome to IFComp 2001, the competition for short text adventures.
23 November: Shattered Memory has been disqualified due to violation of Authors Rule 3.
16 November: The competition is over, and all votes have been tallied. See below for full details.
7 October: In respose to requests, Akbarr has made a z-code hint file for his game Shattered Memory. You can download it from IFArchive.
4 October: Due to an oversight on my part, the walkthrough for The Evil Sorceror was not included in the competition distributions. Please download it from the the archive. Also, the author of Crusade has made a walkthrough for his game available; it too can be gotten from the archive.
1 October: The games are out! Go get them. When you're ready to record your votes, you can do so on the voting page. As in years past, we are selling ever-popular competition t-shirts. Details below.
28 September: The games are in and being processed. This year we have 52 games.
1 September: All authors have sent in their intent to enter. We have ninety-four intents, though, as in years past, the actual number of games entered will be less than that.
22 April: The web site is officially open and prize donations are being taken.
For the last seven years, the readers of the Usenet newsgroup rec.arts.int-fiction have held a yearly interactive fiction competition. For fans of the old Infocom games as well as for newcomers to the genre, the competition is a chance to enjoy some of the best short adventure games available anywhere.
The competition has ended, and we have winners! The top three games were
1. All Roads
2. Moments out of Time
3. Heroes
Congratulations to all who entered, and also to our Miss Congeniality winners, who were chosen by the authors themselves. The Miss Congeniality winners were, in order, All Roads, The Beetmonger's Journal, and Vicious Cycles.
I'd like to see the full results (plain or with sprinkles).

entered?
Where can I get the games?

What prizes will be given out in the
competition?
What are the rules of the
competition?
(At this point it is too late to enter a game, volunteer, or judge the games.)
As in years past I will be collating competition reviews on my web site; unlike in years past, that web site is now Brass Lantern.
The organizer for the 2001 competition was Stephen Granade. Thanks go to all who have volunteered their time and energy to make this competition happen over the years. Special thanks go to Mark Musante, Lucian Smith, David Cornelson, John Cater, and Neil K. Guy.
